2. New Sculpture course

Hello All,
Starting next academic year, I will be offering two distinct
sculpture classes. In the fall the course will be a life modeling
course, (currently listed as simply, Sculpture), where students will
work from a study of life forms in clay.
During the Spring semester, I will be teaching a course called-
“Sculpting Everyday Things”. This is a course designed around the
creation of functional items such as lamps, chairs, and tables,
whereby we blur the distinction between utility and non-utility, art
and non-art. For anyone interested in learning a multi-media
approach to form making, this would be the course to take. It is a
particularly valuable experience if you are thinking of pursuing
architecture or design, and from my experience, (I’m actually
re-introducing this course, having previously taught it), the work
made it the course was a winning addition to the portfolio for
application to architecture/design programs post graduation.
Feel free to write me if you have any questions.

Come volunteer with Saturdays of Service at the Parent Summit at Chester High School on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Lunch provided!

This is a great opportunity to get out of the bubble and get to know the residents of Chester! No experience necessary. Please contact Jeff at zcao1@swarthmore.edu if interested in any of above.

If you cannot make those times, we can also help set up the day before, Friday April 17 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Please come to one of those times!

6. Campus Wide ASSassins 2009

Your ASS is grass, and I’m going to smoke it—in just one week’s time, hordes of paranoid students will be thinking these very words. If you want in, email the Assmaster back (masterofasses@gmail.com) by Friday, April 17—the hunt begins at sunrise on Monday, April 20. Undoubtedly some on campus might be feeling a little bit extra-relaxed on 4/20, so just a few words of wisdom: Watch Your Ass!

7. Sign up for our Stand-Up Comedy Jam!

Think you might be able to perform stand-up? Then you probably can! Hopefully…

In any case, Spike is willing to give you the opportunity! If you’d like to perform stand-up at our Comedy Jam on Thursday April 23rd at 7PM in Olde Club, just send an email to spikemagazine@gmail.com ASAP, but definitely by the end of the day this Sunday, to let us know you’re in!

Then just come, have 5–7 minutes prepared, and bask in stand-up comedy glory…or something like that. No auditions or censorship or anything like that. Just no holds barred comedy. We love to have new people, so if you’ve never done stand-up before but like trying new ridiculous things, give it a shot!

LPAC Cinema 7:30 pm

- Julie Bridgham – US/Nepal – 2008 – 90 min
Filmed over three years during the most historic and pivotal time in
Nepal’s modern history, The Sari Soldiers is an extraordinary story of six
women’s courageous efforts to shape Nepal’s future in the midst of an
escalating civil war against Maoist insurgents, and the King’s crackdown
on civil liberties. When Devi, mother of a 15-year-old girl, witnesses her
niece being tortured and murdered by the Royal Nepal Army, she speaks
publicly about the atrocity. The army abducts her daughter in retaliation,
and Devi embarks on a three-year struggle to uncover her daughter’s fate
and see justice done. The Sari Soldiers follows her and five other brave
women, including a Maoist Commander, Royal Nepal Army Officer; a
monarchist from a rural community who leads a rebellion against the
Maoists; a human rights lawyer; and a young student activist organizing
the protests to establish democracy. The Sari Soldiers intimately delves
into the extraordinary journey of these women on all sides of the
conflict, through the democratic revolution that reshapes the country’s
future.
