1. Awesome Swat Photo Contest Camera Return!

To everyone who received a camera for the Awesome Swat Photo Contest:

For those of you who’ve handed in your cameras already, thank you! You will receive your prints before Thursday through campus mail. For those still in possession of their cameras, completed or not, if you want us to develop your pictures for FREE, please turn them in before the end of finals week in the labeled box across from the post office window!

2. Forgot to reserve a spot on the AIRPORT SHUTTLE???

Don’t worry!
The schedule has been posted in Parrish across from the post office. Simply look to see when there’s an open shuttle and where the pickup
locations are. If there is room in the van (capacity is 9 people), then you may catch a ride. You will have to pay $10!

3. TEXTBOOK BUYBACK

Textbook Buyback will be held at the Bookstore on:

Friday, December 12, 9am to 4 pm and,
Monday thru Friday. December 15–19, 9am to 4 pm

EARN CASH FOR THE WINTER BREAK.
SELL US YOUR USED BOOKS.

The Bookstore will pay up to 50% of the new book price
providing the textbook has been requested by faculty for classroom use
and is needed to fill next term’s enrollment.
Our Wholesaler will pay up to 35% of the new book price
if the book is being used at other colleges.

4. COOPER FOUNDATION GRANT APPLICATION FORMS AVAILABLE

Grant application forms for the William J. Cooper Foundation are now available at the Art Department Office, Beardsley 215; the Music and Dance Office, Lang 401; Lang Performing Arts Center, LPAC 5; on the Cooper bulletin board outside the Dean’s Office Parrish 140; and at Vice President Maurice Eldridge’s office, Parrish 201.

The William J. Cooper Foundation provides a varied program of lectures, performances and exhibitions that enrich the academic work of the College. The Foundation was established by William J. Cooper who specified that the income from his gift should be used “in bringing to the college eminent citizens of this and other countries who are leaders in statesmanship, education, the arts, sciences, learned professions and business.”

All members of the campus community are welcome to submit proposals, with two caveats: 1. The principal organizers must be on campus during the semester of the event. 2. Students (individuals or groups) must have a faculty or staff person committed to working with them to organize and produce an event.

Application deadline Monday, February 23, 2009.

7. Wildlife Discussion Group

If you are a student who is interested in networking with others who either support or oppose the upcoming deer cull, or if you would like to further explore the complex and controversial subject of wildlife management beyond the bubble of Swarthmore, please send an e-mail to ethan.bogdan@verizon.net. My hope is to coordinate an online discussion of topics ranging from hunting and ecological sustainability to urbanization and the impact of society and technology on nature. Joining this group is an expression of interest and does not require active participation.

11. Apply to be the next Interfaith Intern!

Applications are being accepted for the position of interfaith intern. The
new intern will serve for both semesters of the ‘09 calendar year, working
together with the continuing intern Jane Abell ‘11. The interns work
together with interfaith coordinator Joyce Tompkins and members of student
religious groups to
plan Religion on Campus Week, the spring interfaith dinner, and other
campus events. They also meet periodically with leaders from the religious
groups to help to coordinate religious life on campus.
Interns are paid a stipend of $600 and work about 40 hours per semester.
If you are interested in the position, please submit a short (1
page ) essay describing the reasons for your interest, ideas for
interfaith programming, and experience with religious life on campus.

12. Boren Awards for International Study

Boren Scholarship (NSEP—National Security Education Program) applications are now available for full academic year or semester programs. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors may also apply for summer programs of eight weeks or longer. NSEP award recipients must make a commitment to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year. Boren Scholarships allow U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests but underrespresented in study abroad.

4. Lost Necklace

I lost a necklace that is really important to me somewhere between Wharton and Sharples today (I figured it out once I was already in Sharples). It has a gold chain and an opal pendant. It is extremely, extremely important to me. If someone returns it to me, I will give them a monetary reward.

5. Lost Peruvian Chullo Hat

I lost my favorite chullo knit hat a few days ago. It was somewhere in between Wharton dorm and the Sharples area. It is actually multicolored, but mostly red and white, with “Peru” written all around it, as well as images of llamas. Please let me know if you find it!

8. LOST: Silver dangly earring

I lost somewhere on campus a silver dangly earring. It’s approximately diamond-shaped, with five silver teardrop-shaped pieces hanging from the bottom and a silver swirly piece hanging in the center of the diamond. Assistant Managers aid in the administration and regulation of the SAA by attending SBC office hours, filing, recording, and helping people access funds that have been allocated. Job provides excellent training in office management and experience. Will also oversee SBC development projects at the direction of the Manager, including working with various campus groups and administrators. Potential for advancement to Manager. No prior experience necessary. Underclasspersons are encouraged to apply.

Applications are invited for the position of Interfaith intern for spring/fall semesters 2010. the interfaith interns:
* work together to initiate interfaith programs;
*plan and implement Religion and Spirituality on Campus Week (first week of Feburary);
*plan and implement the spring interfaith dinner;
*build communication between different student religious and spiritual groups on campus;
*help to raise the profile of religious life on campus through activities, publicity, web site updates;
*meet regularly with Joyce Tompkins, Interfaith Coordinator;
*other activities according to the interests of the particular interns.

To apply for one of these positions, please write a one-page essay outlining the reasons for your interest, your experience with religious/spiritual/interfaith life at Swarthmore, and ideas you might have for improving programs and communication between groups.
