10. Want to see more diversity on college campuses?

Become a telementor!

The Admissions Office is launching a new initiative to help economically disadvantaged, first-generation, and underrepresented minority students navigate the college application process by pairing them with current college student mentors from similar backgrounds. By becoming a telementor, you can help give these students a chance to be competitive applicants at elite colleges like Swarthmore. The application and more information about the program are available here: http://www.swarthmore.edu/x20208.xml.

¿Cómo aprendiste a hablar español?

18. Senior Linguistics help needed

Hi, my name is Rio and I’m asking for your help.

I’m a senior writing a Linguistics thesis on the way foreign accents are detected. I have made a game on Facebook that helps me obtain data while making it fun for you and your friends to compete: it’s called the FAST Game, for Foreign Accented Speech Transcription, and I was wondering if you would help me by playing.

The game is up at:

http://apps.facebook.com/fastgame/

Please send this along to your friends, colleagues, mentors, and everyone you know. The more people that play, the better!

For issues with regards to privacy, or more on what the game is about, please see

http://www.rioleo.org/dev/fast/help.php

or feel free to ask me via email.

Sincerely,
Rio Akasaka ‘09

19. THANKSGIVING BREAK AIRPORT SHUTTLE

Student Council’s Thanksgiving Break Airport Shuttle Service is accepting reservations starting SUNDAY, November 9.
The Airport Van Shuttle Service has (usually) been efficient, friendly, and reliable. It is easier (and cheaper) than SEPTA or private taxi services.

Dorm-to-terminal service is available for both your departure and arrival. All for just $5 one-way or $10 round-trip!

****DEADLINE FOR ALL REQUESTS: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH AT 5:00PM****
Please read this ENTIRE message and follow the directions.
TO RESERVE YOUR SPACE ON THE SHUTTLE:
* DO complete a blue Request Card available directly across from the post office window.
* DO return your blue Request Card WITH PAYMENT by placing it in the orange and black Airport Shuttle mailbox located prominently to the right of the request cards.
* DO include your $5.00 to cover the one-way trip, $10 for round-trip. Make checks payable to Swarthmore College.
* DO NOT submit email requests. They will be ignored.

Complete instructions are posted on the wall opposite the post office window.

The OFFICIAL Airport Shuttle schedule will be posted in front of the Post Office on Wednesday, November 19th or earlier.

IMPORTANT NOTES (please review):

The shuttle will run on Monday through Sunday, requests and drivers permitting.
Not all requests are guaranteed but every attempt will be made to secure drivers for all shifts requested. If drivers cannot be scheduled, you will be refunded after break. We have almost always been able to schedule requests for ANY time (even if it’s 4AM!).

If you do not sign up for the airport shuttle before-hand, you can still take it, space permitting. YOU WILL BE CHARGED $10.00 PER ONE-WAY TRIP. The easiest way to do this is to simply show up at one of the scheduled pick-up spots at the time nearest to when you wish to leave.

Want to earn some extra cash? Be a shuttle driver! Contact the van coordinator for details.

More questions? Contact the Van Coordinator at vanreq@swarthmore.edu about pick-up procedures, policies, scheduling errors, etc.
