1. The Middle East

Are you interested in the Middle East? Do you like Middle Eastern food? Do you like Middle Eastern music and dance? Do you want to learn more about the Middle East? Are you tired of the general ignorance that exists about the Middle East and want to do something about it?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, consider joining the Middle Eastern Cultural Society (MECS). MECS is a new OPEN student group on campus created specifically to address these interest.

5. Swarthmore College Annual Disclosure Statement

Students, prospective students, faculty, and staff are entitled to many kinds of information about the College. In accordance with the Higher Education Amendments, this resource sheet lists the kinds of information to which you are entitled by federal mandate and instructions for how to obtain that information. This list will be published annually each fall, and will be made available upon request from the Admissions Office (610–328-8300).

Financial assistance information
Upon request, you are entitled to a description of the financial assistance programs available, the application forms and procedures, eligibility requirements, criteria for selection, criteria for determining the amount of the award, satisfactory progress standards, disbursement methods, loan terms, and the conditions and terms for employment provided as part of a student’s financial assistance award, and conditions for deferral of federal loan repayments for volunteer service. Information about the institution
You are entitled to information about refund policies, return of Title IV assistance, requirements for officially withdrawing from the institution, cost of attendance, refund policy, academic program, faculty, and facilities; accreditation and licensure; special facilities and services for students with disabilities; individuals to contact for institutional or financial assistance information; and information about how a student’s enrollment in a study abroad program may affect the application for Title IV assistance. This information may be found in the College Bulletin. For further clarification please contact the Office of the Dean at 610–328-8365.

Graduation rates
You are entitled to know the graduation rates of students at our institution. This information may be found in the College Bulletin http://www.swarthmore.edu/cc_educationalprogram.xml#8_15. You may also contact the Registrar’s office at 610–328-8297 for this information.

Annual security report
This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Swarthmore College; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The report may be viewed at Public Safety’s web site . You can also obtain a copy of this report by contacting the Department of Public Safety at 610–328-8330.

Athletic program participation rates and financial support data
You are entitled to know about athletics revenue and expense data, and participation rates, by gender. For this information, please contact the department of Physical Education and Athletics at 610–320-8218.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act regulations (FERPA)
This set of federal regulations protects the rights of current students to inspect and review their education records, request amendments to their records, and limit disclosure of “personally identifiable information.” For more detailed information about FERPA, please refer to the Student Handbook “Privacy of Information” section, or contact the Registrar’s office at 610–328-8297.

7. Sharples Pumpkin Carving Contest

Sharples is hosting a PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST for interested students & staff. Pumpkins may be picked up in Sharples kitchen on Friday, October 24. Pumpkins should be carved and returned to Sharples no later then Wednesday, October 29. Pumpkins will be DISPLAYED BY THE FIREPLACE and judged by celebrity judges on Thursday, October 29 at dinner. GREAT PRIZES! Come and join in the Holiday Fun.

8. Mairin Din Accident Witnesses Wanted

As you know,we continue to wish recovery upon freshman Mairin Din, who was riding her bike on September 24, 2008, when she collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Harvard and Yale. She is in a Rehabilitation Hospital in New York. Anyone who saw Mairin that day, or the driver of the vehicle, are urged to provide information for the Din family at dininfo@comcast.net

11. Interested in Drama Board Mainstage Spring '09???

Please remember to contact any member of Drama Board RIGHT NOW if you
are at all interested in proposing a show for the Mainstage next semester. This commits you to nothing and does not require any preparation. We just
want to know you´re out there so we can make sure you get all the
information you need about putting together a fantastic proposal. (Because we’re focusing now on the proposal process, we don’t need to hear from actors, although we’re happy that people are interested in acting on the mainstage as well!)

~4 hours/week, one semester term, three positions available

Assistant Managers aid in the administration and regulation of the SAA by attending SBC office hours, filing, recording, and helping people access funds that have been allocated. Job provides excellent training in office management and experience. Will also oversee SBC development projects at the direction of the Manager, including working with various campus groups and administrators. Potential for advancement to Manager. No prior experience necessary. Underclasspersons are encouraged to apply.

3. Interfaith Intern

When: begin Jan '10

Where: campus

Applications are invited for the position of Interfaith intern for spring/fall semesters 2010. the interfaith interns:
* work together to initiate interfaith programs;
*plan and implement Religion and Spirituality on Campus Week (first week of Feburary);
*plan and implement the spring interfaith dinner;
*build communication between different student religious and spiritual groups on campus;
*help to raise the profile of religious life on campus through activities, publicity, web site updates;
*meet regularly with Joyce Tompkins, Interfaith Coordinator;
*other activities according to the interests of the particular interns.

To apply for one of these positions, please write a one-page essay outlining the reasons for your interest, your experience with religious/spiritual/interfaith life at Swarthmore, and ideas you might have for improving programs and communication between groups.

I am currently a nanny for a family in the ville (on Park Street 5 minutes from the train station). I am looking for someone to take over Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (Tuesday and Thursday are negotiable). In a normal day you pick the kids up from the bus stop, make an after school snack, put in a load of laundry, prepare dinner and help with homework. No car necessary.
