Volunteer in Ecuador this Summer!
General interest meeting this WEDNESDAY, OCT 22 @ 8PM in KOHL 228.
Interested in global education? Interested in gaining hands-on experience in a Swarthmore-run, non-profit organization?
The Village Education Project is looking for enthusiastic and passionate Swatties to join our team. Developed by Katie Chamblee ‘07, the Village Education Project works to empower rural villages by making education an accessible and sustainable local resource. Our project currently focuses on underprivileged students from communities that surround Otavalo, Ecuador: Mojandita, Chuchuqui, La Joya. Our initiatives:
Sponsorship. We cover matriculation fees, supplies, uniforms and books for students from four sponsored villages who wish to attend high school in nearby Otavalo. Next year we will sponsor over 100 students in 4 villages.
Support. We offer an annual summer program in village primary schools that provides courses in Math, and English. Volunteer teachers conduct classes from an original curriculum designed with the help of local education specialists to ensure that our students are successful as they enter high school.
A Sustainable Future. We provide the human and material resources to enable the primary schools in sponsored villages to produce successful, well-prepared students and make education a permanent community resource.
General interest meeting this WEDNESDAY, OCT 22 @ 8PM in KOHL 228.
