Sigma Xi dinner and talk

Sponsor: http://www.swarthmore.edu/NatSci/SigmaXi/

When:December 10 at 6:00 PM

Where: Upper Tarble

The Swarthmore College chapter of Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Society) would like to remind interested students of two events on December 10th:

1. An induction dinner at Upper Tarble at 6:00PM. If you are an active (dues-paying) member of Sigma Xi, or have submitted a Nomination for Membership form recently) the dinner is absolutely free. New members will take the Society’s oath and sign the aged, leather-bound log book that has been in use since the founding of the chapter. Please RSVP using the following at http://tinyurl.com/sigmaxi by December 1st. If you would like to attend but haven’t yet submitted your nomination form, do so today so that you don’t miss out. The 1-page form is at http://www.swarthmore.edu/NatSci/SigmaXi/membership.html; just attach an abstract of your paper, poster, or presentation, then drop off at office of Colin Purrington, the chapter president (room 104 in Martin Building).

2. An 8:00PM talk by Dr Jason Downs, a paleontologist at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. His talk is titled, “Unlocking the origin of vertebrate terrestriality: My journey from the classroom to the High Artic”. He will discuss some amazing fossil finds and also discuss what it’s like to be a paleontologist. The talk is free and open to everyone (bring a date!). SC 199 Cunniff Hall.
