Last Wednesday, Nov. 1, Information Technology Services (ITS) removed a link to swatoverlaps.tumblr.edu from the student publications section of The Dash. Swat Overlaps is a page that maintains a record of the events of the Spring of 2013, otherwise known on campus as “The Spring of our Discontent.”
According to an email exchange with ITS, “Swat Overlaps was removed to[sic] the dash due to post inactivity.”
The exchange continued, “The last post on the Overlaps blog was nearly 6 months ago on April 17th. We have added two new student publications to The Dash that have been active, The Swarthmore Independent and Voices.”
McCabe Library captures an archive of The Dash through its web archiving of swarthmore.edu. According to McCabe, “When you click on the homepage of any swarthmore.edu capture in Archive-It, then click “Campus Community” at the bottom, you are directed to The Dash (hyperlink added).”
Here’s an image of what the “Student Media” section of The Dash looked like before the change:
Here is what it looks like after:
Swat Overlaps was not included in McCabe’s routine crawls of various Swarthmore affiliated websites. After an inquiry, McCabe “added swatoverlaps.tumblr.com to [its] crawls, and [is] running a one-time crawl for [it, too].”
An archive of this site should be captured and made public later this week. You can access it and other web archives here.
