The Daily Gazette
The Daily Gazette requested a total of $1296.00 to attend a conference in New York City hosted by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) and College Media Association. $1080.00 will go toward registration and $216.00 will be used for transportation. The Dean’s Office provided $400.00, which will be used either toward housing or extra workshops. If necessary, The Daily Gazette will also use their income for conference expenses. The Daily Gazette will update the Student Budget Committee on its other sources of funding. Two committee members abstained from voting, and a proposal for full funding passed unanimously among the remaining members.
Swarthmore Asian Organization (SAO)
The Swarthmore Asian Organization is taking a joint trip with MULTI, HAPA, the Swarthmore Chinese Society, HAN, and Deshi to the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU) conference at Rutgers University. SAO requested a total of $2840.00, including $400.00 for transportation, $120.00 for parking, and $2320.00 for the registration fees. Because attending the conference will not require hotel fees this year, there will be greater attendance by non-board members; a total of twenty-nine people are attending the conference. SAO has requested funding from the Asian Studies Department, the Center for Innovation and Leadership (CIL), and the Dean’s Office. Only the Asian Studies Department has responded thus far, providing the group with a total of $200.00. The Student Budget Committee voted to provide $1840.00 in conditional funding, with the expectation that the Dean’s Office and CIL would each provide $400.00. The registration deadline is in less than a week; SBC agreed to cover the remainder of the cost in the event that the Dean’s Office and CIL do not respond in time. Two committee members abstained from voting, and a proposal for conditional funding passed unanimously among the remaining members.
Men’s and Women’s Ultimate Frisbee
The Men’s and Women’s Ultimate Frisbee teams requested funding for their annual spring break training trip to South Carolina. This trip allows for the teams to train in warmer weather in preparation for their competitive season, which begins immediately after spring break. The teams requested a total of $4680.00 to rent six vans at $104.00 per van per day. The Student Budget Committee had a short discussion on the merit of spring break trips. Two committee members abstained from voting, and a proposal for full funding passed unanimously among the remaining members.
