StuCo Report: Genderfuck, Constitution, StuCo Retreat

Genderfuck

StuCo began the meeting with a recap of Genderfuck. Josh Hallquist ‘14 solicited feedback on the party, the Paris is Burning screening, and the ASAP [Abuse & Sexual Assault Prevention] workshops before the party. He said that there were zero hospitalizations.

“It’s a testament to Josh and Michelle and the Genderfuck committee […]. [They] did everything they possibly could to prevent hospitalizations at the party,” Co-President Jason Heo ‘15 said in a post-meeting press conference.

StuCo Retreat

StuCo has met with Deans Liz Braun and Liliana Rodriguez and Social Events Coordinator Mike Elias about a potential StuCo retreat next fall. Council chairs will get training in administrative work and conflict resolution, bond, and talk about the constitution.

LSE [Large Scale Event] Vote

Student Council has put up a vote on Moodle for how the LSE’s funding will be distributed. All current students are eligible to vote. It also includes a question about students’ attitudes towards the college’s weather policies.

Zipcar

Van coordinator Stephanie Styles ‘14 came to the meeting to talk about the upcoming Zipcar trial at Swarthmore. Two cars will arrive for a one to two-year trial period. StuCo is not sure how the introduction of Zipcar will affect the current SEPTA funding program.

Constitution

Lastly, StuCo discussed its constitution. Before ratifying a new version, they have decided to introduce a temporary structure through a motion to allow them to reform StuCo before the constitution is ratified. The council will solicit feedback and suggestions for the constitution from community members over the summer.

Eduard Saakashvili

Eduard is a film and media studies major from Tbilisi, Georgia. He abandoned The Daily Gazette during sophomore year to focus on his career in club fencing. Big mistake.
