Men’s Tennis Advance to CC Semifinals

With a 5-1 victory against No. 5 Ursinus, the Swarthmore Men’s Tennis team (11-9, 6-3) advanced to the Centennial Conference semifinals yesterday afternoon, where they will face No. 1 seed Johns Hopkins.

In doubles play, the Garnet took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to jump ahead 2-1. Preston Poon ’14 and Max Kaye ’14 teamed up to win No. 3 doubles 8-3, while Anthony Collard ’14 and Malik Mubeen ’13 paired up to pull out an 8-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

Singles play saw No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles fall in favor of the Garnet. Irving Stone ’15 took No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. Mubeen and Poon both ended the afternoon as double winners, as Mubeen won No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-3, and Poon finished with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles.

The Garnet will face the Blue Jays at Hopkins on Saturday, May 4. The match is slated to start at 11 a.m.
