The Infinite Playlist: Back on the Beach

Ahh, the weather warmed up, sun is out, and it’s time to hit Parrish beach. For someone who’s seasonal allergies just absolutely hate that he chose to go to a school in an arboretum, this is probably one of the most redeeming qualities of the place in the spring. Hanging out with friends and seeing your peers lounge outside definitely reminds you that we do look like a college sometimes. Here are a couple songs for you to relax, hang out, and chill at the beach:

1)      “Elle Me Dit” by Mika
Sent by someone special to me, this is my go-to springtime song. It’s a fun, popping song that can get you off your feet. For those who do not understand French, “Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie? Danse, danse, danse” in the chorus means “Why are you wasting your life? Dance dance dance” #preach

2)     “Diane Young” by Vampire Weekend
FINALLY. Vampire Weekend has a new song and it’s a winner. Heavy with drums and sweet with each time the lead sings “baby,” this heavily East Coast-influenced song will get you listening to it on repeat.

3)     “I Love It” by Icona Pop
While this song is not new by any means, I feel as thought this is always fun and especially great to listen to when you’re out on the beach, knowing you have work and commitments, but not really giving a damn f*ck about it. I love it.

4)     “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, T.I., Pharrell
Although I don’t follow Robin Thicke, this is his newest single and it is good. This slow jam will get you shaking that booty.  Go on. You know you want to.

5)     “Awkward” by San Cisco
I found this gem while stumbling around YouTube. An Australian indie pop band, San Cisco is definitely one to follow. From the music video to the lyrics, this song is overflowing with awkwardness (nothing new at Swat). My favorite part is when they’re standing in front of each other texting. Sit them down, put food in front of them, and that’s Sharples.

6)     “The Fall” by Rhye
Rhye was introduced to be my another friend and I instantly fell in love with their voice and songs. Let this duo’s soothing voice wash over you when you bathe in the sun.

7)     “The Only Place” by Best Coast

Suggested by another Swattie, if you’re seeking that California spring time, (is it ever spring in California?) give this tune a listen! It will surely make your day just a bit sunnier.

8)     “In The Beginning” by K’naan
Let’s end the playlist with “In The Beginning”. This song is not new, but it makes the listener feel like the world is just beginning to open up – kind of like spring. Enjoy the beautiful weather Swatties!
