To our dear fellow Swarthmore students:
Over the past several weeks, we have watched as the flooding in Pakistan has devastated the lives of millions of people. How it stirs the heart to see God’s children suffer so. How can we rest when we are commanded, “Love your neighbor as yourself”?
In the coming days, Swarthmore Hillel, the Muslim Students Association, Deshi, and Swarthmore Asian Organization will be working in partnership to raise as much money as we possibly can to send to the relief effort in Pakistan. We will send the money to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, a charity that allocates 100% of donations to the relief effort.
Why a Jewish charity? Listen: For too long has there been intense hatred between Jews and Muslims around the world. We insist on dehumanizing each other to so great an extent that we cannot imagine each other standing together as brothers and sisters in love and kindness. Nevertheless we have hope. It is in our hands now to halt this awful denial of truth. By contributing to a Jewish charity’s presence in Pakistan, we hope to take a step in the direction of brotherhood.
You can fill out a pledge form here.
We will send you a copy of your pledge form, along with a return envelope, through campus mail. We will also accept contributions and have pledge forms available at Sharples.
Will you join us in this endeavor?
