The StuCo members present at Sunday’s meeting – all except Rachel Bell ’10, President, and Ben Francis ‘12, Student Groups Adviser (who arrived after StuCo had voted) – unanimously approved the SBC budget for the next academic year.
StuCo Survey and Announcement Delays
StuCo talked about holding an emergency meeting on Tuesday after their Blackboard survey on work study, payment of StuCo members, and Sunday breakfast, closes at 4:00pm. At the meeting, StuCo would discuss whether or not StuCo positions will be paid next semester. StuCo hopes to make a decision about payment before announcements for open positions are made. Thus, the announcements, which were scheduled to be released today, will be delayed for several days.
Meeting with Rebecca Chopp and DREAM Act
Some members of StuCo will be meeting with Rebecca Chopp on Wednesday to discuss the next Board of Managers meeting, Sharples for breakfast on Sundays, and the DREAM Act, among other things.
StuCo also plans to submit an editorial to the Phoenix and the Gazette sometime this week. According to Dan Symonds ‘11, Financial Policy Representative, the editorial will explain “why our school should have a public opinion on the DREAM Act.”
On May 2nd, from 7pm until 12am, StuCo will hold a movie night on Parrish Beach. StuCo discussed which movies should be shown. Up, The Whiz, Pan’s Labyrinth, Where the Wild Things Are, and the Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland were all mentioned as possible films. Still, StuCo must meet with the Movie Committee before a final decision can be reached. Popcorn and Dippin’ Dots will be available at the event.
Sophia Naylor ’13, Co-Van Coordinator, met with StuCo to discuss problems with the King of Prussia shuttle. According to Naylor, “there has been a lot of miscommunication.” However, the King of Prussia shuttle is scheduled to run this Saturday.
Despite difficulties in approving new shuttles and getting them into service, “the shuttles that have been in place [such as the movie and Target shuttles] have actually been running better,” Naylor said.
- StuCo will hold a “Parlor Party” on Saturday, April 17th from 1pm until 5pm on Parrish Beach in front of McCabe. From 1pm to 3pm, StuCo members whose terms are ending this semester will speak with students interested in applying for positions. Snacks, beverages, bubbles, and balls will be provided at the event.
- StuCo hopes to meet with Jeff Jabco, Director of Grounds, this week to discuss putting picnic tables behind Sharples.
- Planning for the bike share program is in its final phases. StuCo aims for the program to start next week.
