A large and spirited crowd rallied, on Saturday night at Clothier Field, to cheer the Men’s Soccer Team onto a 1–0 win over Johns Hopkins. A goal early in the game and a strong defensive performance earned Swarthmore’s victory.

The Garnet wasted no time in taking the lead. In the 6th minute, Morgan Langley ’11 took a long pass from the midfield by Fabian Castro ’12 and beat his defender, ultimately scoring his fifth goal of the season. The rest of the game, particularly the second half, tested Swarthmore’s defense.

Johns Hopkins controlled possession for the majority of game, finishing with a 19–12 advantage in shots. Yet Swarthmore’s back line stepped up to the challenge—goalkeeper David D’Annunzio ’12, who has started in three games and saved every shot so far, made six saves in this game. He made two saves in the final 15 minutes of play, catching a header from directly in front of the goal in the 78th minute and diving to save an open shot in the 82nd minute.

Saturday’s game marked Swat’s second consecutive win against Johns Hopkins. Swat defeated the team last season in winning the Centennial Conference championship game. Swarthmore’s score is 6–0 for the season – they will play an away game at Immaculata University, in Elverson, PA, on Wednesday.
