Proposed Student Council Constitutional Amendment Regarding Attendance
Existing Language:
2.1.3 In order to uphold their duties as laid forth in this Constitution and the SC bylaws, SC members must attend SC business and special meetings and meetings of committees to which they are assigned.
Proposed Amendment:
2.1.4. SC members may not be excused from anymore than four SC meetings, special meetings or meetings of committees to which they are assigned. SC members must give advance prior to a meeting in order to be excused.
2.1.4.1 If a SC member misses more than four SC meetings, special meetings or meetings of committees to which they are assigned, he or she will forfeit his or her position on SC. A special election will be held as soon as possible to fill the vacancy.
2.1.4.2 The Appointments Chair and the Student Groups Advisor shall have the power to excuse SC members from attending meetings of the Appointments and Charter Committees without this counting to the number of allowed absences.
2.1.4.2 If a SC member exceeds the number of excused absences due to an unavoidable circumstance such as a religious holiday etc., SC may permit that SC member to continue to serve on SC by a majority vote of SC.
2.1.4.4 The SC secretary will be responsible for compiling an attendance record to enforce this policy. If the SC secretary is absent, one of the campus life representatives shall insure that an attendance is taken. The Appointments Chair and the Student Groups Advisor shall maintain an attendance record for their respective committees and share it with the secretary.

point 2.1.4.2 seems like it would give room for best friends to excuse each other all the time. what is the aim of this point?

It can be sometimes extremely difficult to schedule appointments interviews due to major conflicts with Council members' schedules and interviewees' schedules. This would give the appointments chair the flexibility to get these interviews accomplished without having to be mandated to get all 4 other members of the appointments committee in the room. That being said, there should be at least 3 members of the appointments committee present for interviews and votes. A similar reasoning can be applied to the charter committee.
