The Swarthmore Food Cooperative

Theater, Arts, Asian Food, and Dancing

Starting on Friday, Swarthmore actors, directors, writers, designers, and stage techs will come together to attempt to write, produce, and perform a handful of original plays in just 24 hours. The performances will be at 8pm on Saturday in the Hicks Mural Room.

Meanwhile, the still-continuing Philly Fringe festival includes a 24 hour improv marathon along with a wide variety of other options, like Michael Zadara ‘99’s acclaimed production of a classic Polish play. The Fringe still has an incredible variety of offerings even after the more recent Swat alums’ shows have closed.

And just a few stops away on SEPTA, the Lansdowne Arts Festival will feature a variety of local artists from bluegrass and classic rock to hip-hop and tap dancing, both Saturday and Sunday during the day.

For the less artistically inclined, dodge fajita bar by going to the HAN-sponsored Korean barbecue tonight in the WRC. And, if you don’t know where or what the WRC is, you can check out the “What’s the WRC?” event, 8 to 10 on Saturday. (It’s that building by Olde Club and the frats, the one that’s not Kitao.) Then, to continue the Asian food theme, Friends of Taiwan’s annual Dumpling Social, where you make and eat dumplings, is in the Alice Paul lounge at 3 on Sunday.

Then burn off the Korean food (or get ready for the dumplings) with Contra dancing in Upper Tarble Saturday evening. (This is the New England folk dance kind of Contra, not the ones in Nicaragua with the Iranian blood money.)

Now that you’ve been in your room a little while, realize that it needs a little more life? Check out the Arboretum plant sale this weekend, from 1pm to 3pm Saturday and 10am to 2pm Sunday.

I'm pretty sure the BBQ was just postponed. Hopefully it'll happen soon!
