Weekend Roundup: “Time out of joint” and Glass Eggs
Somehow or other, it’s April, which means spring flowers, pollen, and the last push before classes end and everyone starts thinking about exams. While this can be an overwhelming time, it’s also a great time to take advantage of events on and off campus to help get your mind off of those impending finals and due dates.
Tonight in LPAC, activist and filmmaker Ellen Spiro is presenting her piece, “Body of War,” following the story of a young man paralyzed by a wound sustained while serving in Iraq. Another option for those of you sensing that “the time is out of joint,” is “Hamlet,” playing at St. Stephen’s Theater this weekend.
A few other performances in the city to note are the Ballet X Spring Series at the Wilma Theater including work inspired by Sinead O’Connor, Dr. Seuss, and Bach, and Brazilian group Minas at the World Café tomorrow night.
If you’re in the mood for a musical, “Born Yesterday” at the Walnut Street Theater, “Something Intangible” by the Arden Theatre Company,” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (the story of a flying car) is playing at the Academy of Music.
Finally, for those of you hoping to regress a little, try Philly CarShare and go to Linvilla Orchard for “Hayrides to Bunny Land” or buy a few Cadbury eggs and visit Longwood Gardens’ Easter display in the indoor gardens. You could also go to the Polish American Cultural Center to see the collection of traditional Pisanki (painted Easter eggs) on Walnut Street then make your own glass Easter egg at Hudson Beach glass studio (yes, you learn how to blow your own glass).
