300 Students Stuck on Campus Because of Snow Storm

Nearly 300 students were reported to be stranded at Swarthmore by Sunday night because many flights, trains and buses were delayed due to the snow. Even Dean Head had a flight delayed until Tuesday. (Photos by Brendan Work.)
Initially, the deadline for moving out was only extended until Sunday, but many flights, buses and trains were rescheduled multiple times. All the dorms stayed open with water and heating until Monday afternoon when some buildings that were empty of students shut down. Remaining students on campus Tuesday morning were moved to the Cratsley House, a college-owned guest house situated between dorms Strath Haven and PPR.
Dean Campbell and Dean Head started to cook at 4:30 in the morning for a campus-wide brunch held in ML. Food supplies were taken from leftovers from Sharples...
Swarthmore sent out text messages to students alerting them to contact Head about flight delays. This utilized the emergency contact program started more than a year ago under form housing coordinator Liz Derickson.
