Sonya Clark at the List: Photos

Work by Sonya Clark at the List Gallery.
Clark's work has been influenced by West African strip-weave patterns.
A curl of hair is evoked by the arrangement of combs.
This diptych is a portrait of Madam C.J. Walker, the successful African American businesswoman who made her way to becoming a millionaire by selling beauty and hair products.

Clark sets combs tightly together to create a piling effect like velvet.
