Weekend Roundup: Be Mine, Valentine
“Roses are red, violets are blue, thank god it’s Friday, it’s too good to be true….” (This is why I stick to prose.) However, this is a great weekend for those who want to indulge a sweetheart or sweet tooth and hear some genuinely well-composed verses whether you stay around Swat or venture further afield.
Sixteen Feet will be hosting alum Andrew Rose Gregory ’04 at Olde Club on Saturday night (7 pm). Gregory will be singing pieces from his new album “The Color Red & Other Songs About the Power of Love” whose first album earned him the praise of being “an intuitive, empathetic, no rules writer.”
The original play “The Alchemical Theater” will be premiered by Jean-René Toussaint in Frear Ensemble Theater this weekend. Meanwhile, Upper Tarble will be the stage for “Almost, Maine,” an adorable, occasionally awkward collection of love stories. Then there is the classic “When Harry Met Sally” in Sci 101, the film which made “I’ll have what she’s having” the suggestive catch phrase of a generation… well before “That’s what she said.”
Off campus events are also ideal for the romantically inclined. From Donizetti’s “Elixer of Love” at the Prince Music Theater to “Beckett, Ionesco, and Durang: Oh, for the Love of Love!” by the improbably titled Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium. Chances are you may also be trying to detox from all of those candy hearts, however, don’t skip out on dimsum or a red bean bun in Chinatown this weekend as the Lion Dance and Parade will begin at noon on Sunday. One of the best public spectacles in the city, it’s worth stopping by to celebrate the Year of the Rat.
