CROSS COUNTRY: Swarthmore Runs in Paul Short

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Swarthmore cross country teams competed in the annual Paul Short Run on the campus of Lehigh University Friday evening. The men’s team was led by sophomore Patrick Hartnett, who ran a personal-best time for the second week in a row, placed 20th out of 41 teams. Freshman Melissa Frick shaved almost three minutes off her 6K time, leading the Garnet women to 8th place out of 37 teams.

VOLLEYBALL: Heaney Breaks Record, Terror Top Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Garnet senior libero Erin Heaney became the all-time leader in digs at Swarthmore as the Garnet dropped a 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 27-25, 25-15) decision to visiting McDaniel in Centennial Conference volleyball action Saturday morning. Heaney, a senior captain, totaled four digs in the first set, breaking the previous mark of 1,477 held by Erica George ’07. Heaney tallied nine digs on the afternoon to stand at 1,483 digs (good for top-15 all-time in the Centennial).

FIELD HOCKEY: Terror Take Garnet to Overtime for CC Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — The McDaniel field hockey team won 4-3 in overtime against host Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Garnet got goals from Abbe Muller ’10, Joslyn Young ’10 and Devon Novotnak ’11.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Colombo Solves Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Swarthmore sophomore forward Megan Colombo sent a chilled Clothier Field crowd home happy, scoring the game-winning goal in the 104th minute to give the Garnet a 1-0 double-overtime win over Centennial-foe McDaniel Saturday evening. After being unable to find a crack in the Green Terror defense (30-4 shot advantage), Colombo ran onto a through ball from junior midfielder Maggie DeLorme and tucked a volley into the right corner at 103:57 for her fifth goal of the season (third game-winner). Senior Lauren Walker made a pair of saves for her third shut out of the season.

MEN’S SOCCER: Garnet Unload on Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Swarthmore men’s soccer team scored three times in the second half to defeat the Bullets for just the second time in the last 16 meetings. The Garnet got goals from Dylan Langley ’10, Yoi Tibbetts ’09 and David Sterngold ’12 on the way to a third consecutive victory on the season. Swarthmore senior goalkeeper Jason Thrope picked up a shutout in his first career start between the pipes, accounting for two saves in the process.
