MEN’S LACROSSE: Gavin Gets Crazy, Garnet Win Again
Swarthmore sophomore Gavin Musynske tallied a career-best six points, including four goals, as the Garnet ran their season-opening win streak to three in a row by defeating St. Mary’s College of Maryland 9-6. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Phalen scored twice while senior goalie Frank Mazzucco added 11 saves.

SOFTBALL: Garnet Keep Pace, Split Carolina Twinbill
The Swarthmore softball offense broke through Wednesday afternoon, smashing 19 hits including a home run and three RBIs from freshman Maggie Vizcarra and two doubles with three runs scored by All-Centennial junior Christine Sendelsky, splitting a doubleheader at Peace College.

MEN’S TENNIS: Banana Slugs Slither Past Swarthmore
The Garnet men’s tennis team concluded its difficult West Coast trip at the defending Division III national champion University of California-Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs, ranked No.1 in the most recent ITA poll, won 9-0.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Seahawks Fly Past Garnet
Despite five goals from freshman Amy Vachal, Swarthmore (1-2) fell 21-16 to St. Mary’s College of Maryland (5-2) in women’s lacrosse action late Wednesday afternoon. enior Susannah Blair corralled nine saves between the posts for the Garnet.

GOLF: Garnet Pick Up Season-Opening Win
Swarthmore junior Michael Bernasek shot a 38 on the front and sophomore Jeffrey Lazarus follwed with a 39 on the back side as the Garnet picked up its first victory of the season, defeating University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg Wednesday afternoon on the No. 4 course at the Pinehurst Resort, site of the 2008 U.S. Amateur this summer.
