Shuffleboard team sweeps conference finals
The Garnet varsity shuffleboard team came out of their conference finals last Thursday with a stunning 10-5, 9-2, 11-7 win over archrival Williams College. The Cow's collapse in the second set seemed to seal the deal, but though made a surprising comeback in the final set, the Garnet's strong play through the entire match proved too good to beat.
Melody Schwarz '08 led with a strong 3 points in the first set, getting the Garnet off to a great start. She was named MVP at the end of the match. Schwarz's ascribes the team's impressive performance to their spring break training trip on Carnival Cruise Lines. "Man, those retirees know their shuffleboard. After them, we can handle anything," she said.
The team is looking forward to next season and its intendant winter stint as a curling team. "I'm not looking forward to that training trip, though,' Schwarz said. "Canada is cold, and those curlers don't show you any sympathy."
