Novice Debaters Break to a Quarter Final at Penn Tournament

Thanks to Peaslee for sending us these tournament results; if your club or intramural sport has news to share, please write us at dailygazette [at] swarthmore [dot] edu.

The Amos J. Peaslee Debate Society took a short trip to Philadelphia last weekend (Nov. 9-10), competing against a wide array of colleges and universities at a tournament hosted by University of Pennsylvania. The Penn Tournament was in Pro-Am style, in which each team was either a pair of a varsity debater and a novice debater or a pair of novice debaters. One of Swarthmore's novice teams, consisting of two novice debaters - Chenge Mahomva '11 and Carlo Felizardo '11 - won four out of five in-rounds, placing the 8th team overall. They qualified to compete in a quarter final round.

The team of Mahomva and Felizardo was also the 1st place novice team of the tournament. Felizardo was the 7th novice speaker and Mahomva was the 8th novice speaker.
