The curious case of construction on Parrish Beach

pa041310.jpgby Steve Dean

If you have wandered toward the western edge of Parrish Beach recently, you may have noticed a mysterious grassless line of dirt or the workmen who have been hovering around that area. At first, the Daily Gazette hypothesized that this was perhaps connected to the installment of new lamp posts. This turned out not to be the case, however.

In response to an e-mail message, Stu Hain, Associate Vice President of Facilities, clarified that the "work is to allow us to run a cable from Parrish basement to antennas which will be placed on the top of two light poles." Though Parrish Beach was one of the first locations on campus to have wireless internet, these antennas will provide additional wireless coverage.
