Why does the Science Center have a "Bridge of No Return"?

Why do the doors to the bridge in the Science Center lock behind you from 10 PM to 7 AM? According to Director of Public Safety Owen Redgrave, "while it may not be the only reason, I believe the primary purpose in locking these doors is to provide adequate security to the building, its assets and the safety of those individuals working inside late at night. The consensus of thought was that although the bridge does not provide easy access to the building's interior, it was also not so high as to thwart a determined attempt."

If you get locked out in the cold, you can rest confident in the knowledge that your biology experiment is still safe and sound. Confused about biology, geology, or especially Swatology? Send your questions here: dailygazette [at] swarthmore [dot] edu.
