Grapevine to perform tonight
Since 1985, Swarthmore's own Grapevine has been enchanting audiences with its stunning vocals and beautiful - and at times wonderfully funny - songs and rhythm. Tomorrow, the all-female a cappella choir will be performing in the Alice Paul first floor lounge at 7:30. The program as a whole remains a surprise, though the group leans towards songs of the alternative rock and pop variety, as well as singing some older songs.
Cara Arcuni '09, a year-long Grapevine soprano says that "the songs we're singing are everyone's favorites...you wouldn't possibly want to miss it." Arcuni's favorite thing about Grapevine is the camaraderie, which has extended itself to four new members this semester. Emily Sun, '09; Claire Noble, '10; Christine Ernst, '09; and Jean Strout, '10 will be making their Grapevine debuts at tomorrow's performance. Two of them will have solos. All together, the group has ten members, four of which are abroad.
Grapevine CD's will be on sale for those who are interested. The CD, which was recorded just last semester, features some of Grapevine's highlights and favorites, including Billy Joel's "And So It Goes," Rufus Wainwright's "Hallelujah," and a few medleys. "I like the fact that we do music I don't get to do anywhere else," says Arcuni, who sings the solo for "And So It Goes" on the CD.
