Parrish student lounge gets a makeover

When you go get your mail in the new and improved key-lock mailboxes, you’ll probably notice the large plastic covers draped around Parrish’s Shane Student Lounge. The lounge, which was created last year as part of the Parrish renovation, is being revamped to make for a better lounge than ever.

According to Stuart Hain, the associate vice-president for facilities, some of the elements that were in place in the lounge last spring were only temporary and needed to be replaced. The final selection for countertops, window sills, tables, and hard chairs had not been made, and no window treatments had been installed.

When selecting permanent objects this year, the college decided to revisit color options and explore other possibilities. It turns out that not only the colors are being changed. Space for an additional public computer and printer will be made, as well as soft, comfortable seating for watching a larger TV.

The new and improved Parrish lounge is scheduled to reopen at the end of this week, with the new furniture arriving in the next few weeks. The last element, according to Hain, that will be installed are the window treatments.
