The Swarthmore Food Cooperative

Weekend roundup

Parents' Weekend is upon us, and hopefully that means you can get off campus and get some non-Sharples food (with your parents or somebody else's). If you drive down Baltimore Pike, you'll find many chain restaurants, but for something more interesting, we recommend a trip to Media, about a 10 minute drive. The New Orleans Cafe serves elaborate, pricey, and occasionally fussy Creole cuisine in a very upscale atmosphere. La Na and Nadia (formerly Noodli) both offer excellent Thai food (the former is fairly expensive, the latter reasonable), and Iron Hill Brewery is always popular for those in search of a beer and a hamburger. Turn left on Baltimore Pike as you're driving away from campus and follow the signs to Media.

If you want to escape Swarthmore, with parental units or without, we still think that the Dali exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Film Festival are great choices. But if you're tired of hearing about those, there is plenty else going on. The Lantern Theater presents "Much Ado About Nothing," one of Shakespeare's more serious comedies. It's at St. Stephen's Theater, on Ludlow Street in Philly. Visit http://www.lanterntheater.org for times and ticket prices.
