Class of 1990 graduate expelled from Swarthmore Alumni Association for failing to receive graduate degree
Joe Faleure '90 was permanently barred from attending Swarthmore College reunions and thrown out of the alumni association this week when organizers discovered that he had ended his education after earning his B.A.
Alumni Weekend organizer Sue Rich '73 said that "the Alumni Association requires at least a Masters Degree within five years of graduation from Swat in order to be considered a member in good standing. Multiple degrees, in a variety of disciplines, are much preferred. Having reached the 15 year mark with no further educational achievement, Faleure is not the kind of individual we accept in our alumni family."
"All of our best alums can simultaneously argue the merits of postmodernist literature and perform surgery," Rich continued. "For that kind of knowledge a B.A. just won't do."
