Debaters bring home another first place trophy

Christopher Ford '07 was the top overall speaker at American University's debate tournament this past weekend, marking the second time in as many weeks that the Peaslee Debate Society has brought home a first place award. Ford and Garth Sheldon-Coulson '07 were the 6th place team at the tournament, falling in a close quarterfinal round to a team from the University of Maryland. Julie Baker '07, debating with a partner from William & Mary, also fell in a close quarterfinal round, finishing as 5th place team. She was the 4th place overall speaker at the tournament.

Two of Swarthmore's novices, Miles Skorpen '09 and Alex List '09, were the 3rd novice team at the tournament. Skorpen was 8th overall novice speaker.

The 8 Million Dollar Question

The Ad Hoc Financial Planning Group has been tasked with finding $8 million to cut from the annual budget. They have come up with a proposal for $6.85 million worth of cuts, and are currently seeking feedback from the community on their plan.
