Weekend roundup

Theater fans might want to catch the Walnut Street Theater's production of Neil Simon's "Broadway Bound," the third installment of his loosely autobiographical Brighton Beach trilogy. Eugene Jerome (played by Jesse Bernstein) is a writer just home from World War II, struggling to find a career in the nascent TV comedy industry. The Philadelphia Inquirer calls this production "superb." Tickets start at $10, and the theater is unsurprisingly at 825 Walnut Street. Call 215-574-3550 for info.

If theater's not your thing, maybe horror movies are. If so, "Alone in the Dark" may be just the ticket. With the prestigious cast of Christian Slater and Tara Reid as, respectively, an investigator of paranormal events and an anthropologist, it will surely "reach" to the lofty heights of Final Destination 4: SEPTA. But will it achieve them? Don't listen to the critics on this one.

The Philadelphia LGBT community throws a giant party this weekend with the 15^th annual Blue Ball. Hosted by a variety of clubs around the city, all proceeds go to charity. The highlight will be Saturday night at, ironically enough, the National Constitution Center. For full information, go to http://www.blueballphilly.com .
